Our Trek this year to Everest Basecamp, and then the summit of Lobuche East (6,119m) is a once in a lifetime journey. We'll be led by Jamling Tenzing Norgay, son of the legendary Sherpa Tenzing who in 1953 was the first, along with Sir Edmund Hillary, to summit the world's highest mountain.
For a once in a lifetime trek, it's only right that to take preparation to the next level.
We're delighted to announce that we've officially partnered with The Altitude Centre to do just that.
The Altitude Centre was setup in 2003 by the world's leading altitude training specialist, Richard Pullan. Their technology in altitude simulation is a staple for many elite performance athletes, and for those seeking to prepare optimally for excursions at high-altitude. With clients from England Football to UK Athletics, The Altitude centre will provide TENZING trekkers with a world class training facility to maximise climbing in the Himalaya.
To get our trekkers Everest-ready, we’ll be starting off with a group Mountaineering Consultation in order to get an idea of exactly how each of them respond to altitude, and guide their acclimatisation training.
It is really important to understand that every individual will react differently to altitude, and it’s not a blanket one size fits all when it comes to preparation, so having a baseline marker is vitally important. The key, however, is that everyone can acclimatise , it just takes some a little longer than others to do so.
We’ll follow up the consultation with our individually tailored advice on training for the trek, as well as some individual and group training sessions tailored towards mountain fitness and altitude acclimatisation.
As a general guide, there are three ways you can train, including Sleep, IHE, and Exercise sessions at altitude.
